Concert Review: The Walkmen with the Decemberists
The opening act (The Decemberists) was really entertaining. They were eccentric and flamboyant and put on a really good show. Not to mention that the music was great. They had a lot of different instruments on stage which was a nice change from the standard three guitars and a drum kit. There was an accordion, a double bass, a weird keyboard thing that you blow into...etc..etc. It was the kind of music that you sway your head back and forth to. Lyrics were really interesting as well. Definitely check out their new album, "Her Majesty the Decemberists".
The Walkmen I was kind of disappointed in. Although I'd never really heard their music before, besides a quick listen to the latest album the day prior to the concert. The album was good...although lacking in melody. The performance was boring, to be blunt. They were the typical three guitars and a drum kit. I have to give the drummer credit though; he really got into the music. He was the only thing that kept my eyes on the stage rather than at the back of my head. The lead singer was jumping around, veins sticking out all over his head....you could tell he had talent, but he pushed way too hard. The worst thing was not being able to remember a single melody after the whole thing was over. I wasn't too impressed.
